How to edit videos by transcript on Loom
Loom allows you to edit videos by selecting and deleting portions directly from the auto-generated transcript. Simply click on the transcript text to jump to that section and use the trim tool to remove unwanted parts.
Prerequisites
- Active Loom account
- Recorded video on Loom
- Video with generated transcript
- Basic understanding of Loom interface
Step-by-Step Instructions
Access your video's transcript
If the transcript isn't available yet, wait a few minutes for Loom to process it automatically.
Locate the section to edit
The video player will automatically seek to the corresponding timestamp.
Select the text for removal
You can select single words, sentences, or entire paragraphs.
Open the trim tool
The trim interface will open showing your selected segment highlighted on the timeline.
Confirm the trim selection
The transcript selection and timeline should match exactly.
Apply the edit
The transcript will automatically update to reflect the changes.
Review the edited video
Check for any awkward transitions or timing issues that may need additional editing.
Save and share your edited video
The updated transcript will be available immediately for viewers.
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
Transcript is not generating or appears incomplete
Ensure your video has clear audio and wait up to 10 minutes for processing. If still missing, try re-recording with better audio quality or use Loom's Regenerate Transcript option in video settings.
Selected transcript text doesn't match the desired video segment
The auto-generated transcript may have timing errors. Manually adjust the trim markers on the timeline instead of relying solely on text selection, or click on specific words to verify timing alignment.
Trim tool is not available or greyed out
Ensure you have edit permissions for the video and are using a Loom plan that supports editing features. Business and Enterprise plans have full editing capabilities, while free plans may have limitations.
Video processing takes too long or fails
Large video files may take longer to process. Try refreshing the page and checking your internet connection. For files over 4GB or 4 hours, consider breaking them into smaller segments before editing.
