Quick Answer

Loom's built-in editor allows you to trim videos by selecting the start and end points using the timeline scrubber. You can access the editor from your video library and make cuts without losing video quality.

Prerequisites

 • A Loom account
 • A recorded video in your Loom library
 • Basic familiarity with video editing concepts
 • Web browser or Loom desktop app

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Access your video library

Log into your Loom account and navigate to My Videos in the sidebar. Locate the video you want to edit from your library list and click on the video thumbnail to open it.
Use the search bar or filter options if you have many videos to quickly find the one you need.
2

Open the video editor

Once your video is open, look for the Edit button located below the video player. Click Edit to launch Loom's built-in video editor interface.
The edit button may appear as a pencil icon depending on your view.
3

Navigate the timeline

In the editor, you'll see a timeline at the bottom showing your video's duration. Use the playhead (the vertical line) to scrub through your video. Click anywhere on the timeline or drag the playhead to jump to specific moments in your recording.
Use the spacebar to play and pause the video while reviewing content for editing.
4

Set the start trim point

Position the playhead where you want your video to begin. Click the Split button or use the scissors icon to create a cut point. Then select the unwanted beginning portion and click Delete to remove it.
Preview your start point by playing a few seconds before and after to ensure smooth transitions.
5

Set the end trim point

Move the playhead to where you want your video to end. Create another split point using the Split button, then select and delete the unwanted ending portion. Your video will now end at your chosen point.
Leave a small buffer of 1-2 seconds at the end to avoid cutting off important content abruptly.
6

Make additional cuts (optional)

To remove sections from the middle of your video, position the playhead at the start of the unwanted section and click Split. Move to the end of the section, split again, then select and delete the middle segment.
Use keyboard shortcuts:
S
for split and
Delete
key to remove selected segments.
7

Preview your edits

Click the Play button to preview your edited video from start to finish. Check that all transitions flow smoothly and that you haven't accidentally removed important content. Make additional adjustments if needed.
Watch the entire video at normal speed to catch any jarring cuts or missing context.
8

Save and publish your changes

Once satisfied with your edits, click Save or Done to apply the changes. Loom will process your edits and update the video. Your original video will be replaced with the edited version automatically.
Loom saves edits automatically, but processing may take a few minutes depending on video length.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

Edit button is missing or grayed out

Check that you're the owner of the video and have editing permissions. Some shared videos may have restricted editing access. Ensure you're using a supported browser or the latest version of the Loom app.

Video cuts are not precise

Zoom in on the timeline using the zoom controls for more precise cutting. Use frame-by-frame navigation with the left and right arrow keys to find exact cut points.

Edited video won't save or process

Check your internet connection and try refreshing the page. If processing fails, try making smaller edits in multiple sessions. Clear your browser cache or try editing in an incognito window.

Audio and video are out of sync after editing

This usually occurs with poor internet during processing. Try undoing recent changes using Ctrl+Z and re-applying edits. If the problem persists, contact Loom support for assistance.
