beginner 7 min read Updated 2026-03-24
Quick Answer

Access your Typeform form, add a Multiple Choice question from the Content panel, edit text and choices, toggle Multiple Selection if needed, set logic, preview, and publish. Common issues like branching or multi-select are fixed by proper toggles and rule sequencing. Recommend 4-8 choices for best UX.

Prerequisites

  • Active Typeform account
  • Basic form creation access
  • Understanding of form flow
  • Knowledge of single vs multi-select needs

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Access your form

Log into your Typeform account, go to the Forms section in the top-left menu, and select an existing form or create a new one with + New Typeform.
2

Add Multiple Choice question

In the form editor, click + Add content in the Content panel on the left. Scroll to the purple Multiple Choice section or search 'multiple' and select it. The block appears as a new page in the left menu.
Use search bar for quick access to question types.
3

Edit question text

Click the question block in the middle editor or left menu. In the right-side Question panel, enter your question (e.g. 'Which country has the spiciest food?'). It auto-saves.
4

Add answer choices

In the right-side Question panel, click + Add choice for each option (e.g. 'India', 'Chinese', 'Mexican'). Delete with the X. Starts with one empty field; recommend 4-8 for usability.
Keep choices concise to avoid character limits.
5

Enable multiple selection

Toggle Multiple Selection on in the right-side Question panel. Choose Unlimited, Exact Number (e.g. 2), or Range (e.g. 1-3). Default is single selection.
Cannot change after collecting responses to avoid data issues.
6

Reorder the question

Drag the question icon in the left-side Content panel to your desired position. Preview updates instantly in the middle editor.
7

Add to multi-question page

Drag compatible questions (e.g. Yes/No, Dropdown) into the page, or click + on the page thumbnail. Limit to ≤5 questions to avoid overwhelming users. Questions label as A, B, C.
Use for thematic grouping; differs from Question Groups.
8

Add page header or media

Click the form page header in the middle editor. In the right panel, add Text or Video, or upload via + Image or video.
9

Set up logic branching

Go to Workflow > Branching. Select the question, add rules with if equal to conditions for each choice (e.g. jump to specific pages). Use linear sequence for multi-select.
Account for all paths; complex multi-select needs declining balance logic.
10

Preview and publish

Click Preview top-right to test. Click Publish to go live. Changes auto-save but require publish for access.
Test multi-select and logic thoroughly.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

Multiple selection not working

Toggle Multiple Selection on in the right Question panel and set Unlimited, Exact Number, or Range. Cannot edit after responses collected.

Logic branching skips or fails

Set linear logic rules per answer using if equal to. For multi-select, create sequential checks (e.g. if Q1=o1 go to q_o1, then check next). Cover all combinations.

Too many branches for multi-select

Use declining balance logic: route to first selected, then evaluate remaining from there. Avoid graphing all combos; duplicate groups if needed.

Choices exceed limits or look bad

Limit to 4-8 choices; use Dropdown or Picture Choice for more options. Check character limits in Question settings.

Questions not grouping on one page

Drag compatible types to the same page or use + Add content on thumbnail. Limit to 5 max; use Question Groups for sequential display.
